My first visit to the US, during the winter/spring of 2010 to Verisk Health, was so cold that I was a bit apprehensive of my second visit, during the summer/fall of 2014 to Deerwalk. Fortunately, this time, everything was a lot warmer – both weather-wise and people-wise. In this report, I provide some snippets of those warm experiences:.
Deerwalk Futsal Tournament 2014 kicked off from 20th July. This year, we had a total of 13 teams participating, 10 from boys side and 3 from girls side where each team comprised of 8-10 members. The boy’s teams were divided into two groups and league matches were held in each group. The runners-up and winners of each group qualified for the semi-finals and final matches. The girl’s teams played the league matches and the top two teams with most points qualified for the finals. The opening match was in between the defending champion, QA NINJA [A] Kōga Vs Canteen Football Team. In total there were 28 matches played and more than 100 goals scored.
With the help of the design team, I learned how to use several software programs. They showed me how they utilized Photoshop to create mockups, Dreamweaver to edit the HTML and CSS code of websites, and Wordpress to create functional sites. Mr. Kanchan Raj Pandey introduced me to the new software and its capabilities. With Ankita, a fellow intern, we explored new tools and created projects using what we learned.
After a long and tiresome flight of twenty hours or so, from Kathmandu to Doha to Boston, I was happy to find Abanish and Namita waiting for me at Boston’s Logan airport and I was eager for an amazing US experience.
I had thought that my world cup fever would subside in America but, to my surprise, Sanjeev and Ashay took me to Rudra’s house on the very first day to watch the semifinal match between Netherlands and Argentina. Muna, Erica and Mahika were already cheering and we joined them in watching the greatest show on earth.
It was a hectic month of visa applications along with my regular work at Deerwalk before I could breathe a sigh of relief when my application was accepted. I was overjoyed and, at the same time, a little anxious about what to expect when I finally got to the US.

The event was sponsored by Deerwalk Social Welfare Network (DWSN).
