It was a normal evening in June when I was asked to visit Mr. Rudra Pandey in Lexington, Massachusetts. Upon arrival, I was greeted by several people like Aayush Dhamala, and was asked many questions involving my school, my life, and interests in the future. After our long conversation, Mr. Pandey finally offered me a five-week summer internship position at his software development company, Deerwalk Services. I gladly accepted but then was told that this job would be in Nepal. Many thoughts rushed through my head. This would be my first job ever and would be a great opportunity to learn more about my passion in computer science. However, this would also mean that I would have to leave my family and friends for a majority of summer. Nevertheless, I was excited for my upcoming summer experience.
I had an enjoyable and educational internship at Deerwalk Services. My four weeks here have been a truly enriching learning experience and below, I will briefly describe my internship experience.
I have always had an interest in computers. As I would be going to college next year, I needed to make a decision as to what subject field I would specialize in. So, I was hoping for an internship experience that would help me gain clarity. This unique opportunity to intern at Deerwalk helped me clarify my doubts and convince me that computers/IT should be my chosen field of study.
Ten years ago health care industry analyzed claims data, but now in addition to claims data there is disability claims, lab data, time off work, clinical data, and maybe EMRs. And its not just for hundreds, but for thousands and millions of member, which is a lot of data.
Traditionally, health care industry used relational data base technology. Which perhaps supports a small amount of data and consumes hours of time to search. At Deerwalk we work together in a Big Data to store, analyze and import more data in a flexible way which is very fast and less expensive.
Deerwalk is pleased to announce the 2.0 release of Makalu.
