Data Mapping and Scrubbing
Deerwalk conducts and coordinates cross-functional analysis of health care data from disparate sources. We accept data in any format and turn that into standard formats. Scrubbing is a data cleansing process. We first work on the data layout and study it in detail. Then we import that data into a relational database and work further on cleaning it. The data is then mapped to desired standard formats. The scrubbed data is verified by our QC team to make sure that all logics are implemented correctly and that the data reports fall within industry standard norms. In cases where quality control review identifies an issue, we investigate whether the discrepancy was introduced by our processes, or it is just the nature of the dataset. Either way, the end result is actionable business intelligence obtained by interpreting and explaining results.

Data Warehouse
When Deerwalk builds a data warehouse for a client we focus on creating a database that is actionable and supports the client’s analytic and reporting needs. Information from disparate sources such as medical, pharmacy and lab claims, eligibility records, HRAs, EMRs are brought together into a cohesive database. Required business intelligence to map the data into a Deerwalk defined standard warehouse format, or to a client specific format is completed. The frequency of data update in the warehouse is based on client needs.

Utilization Analytics and Predictive Modeling
Over and under utilization of services and procedures may result in poor member outcomes, decreased quality of care and increased costs to you. Utilization analytics in our products offers industry standard per 1,000 metrics, total member counts and PMPM/PMPY metric results based on your data. This information can help you in evaluation of benefit designs, identifying the health of your population and in budgeting for anticipated future utilization costs.
Milliman’s industry leading risk modeling tool, MARA (Milliman Advanced Risk Adjuster) has been is incorporated into our Makalu product. We use both concurrent and prospective models giving you a more complete picture of risk whether you are interested in the aggregate population, group or individual member level. Every current member in your population will be run-through the model and will have risk scores generated for each of 5 risk categories.

Plan Analytics / Care Analytics
Our products offer innovative ways to analyze healthcare data from both clinical and financial perspectives. Industry standard reports focus on utilization and cost for areas such as places of service, diagnoses, procedures, providers and drugs. Results for user selected reporting and comparison time periods are presented, allowing the client to analyze trends in their healthcare spending and utilization. Analysis from the aggregate book of business level down to the individual member is streamlined. Report generation takes minutes instead of hours.

SumIt
Deerwalk has developed a proprietary functionality referred to as SumIt in our Makalu product. It offers user ease in drilling down into data at multiple levels. Use of the feature is intuitive and requires no special user training or skills. Complex analysis such as looking at the total medical claims grouped by diagnoses, grouped by procedures done for the members with the diagnosis, by place of service for the procedures, and by individual providers for the procedure place of service takes only seconds even when the data set being used is huge.

High Risk Member Stratification
Deerwalk’s MARA risk scores help identify those individuals with the highest risk and those with emerging risks that otherwise might be lost in the crowd. Coupling high risk stratification with integrated care management and appropriate system support can help increase opportunities for proactive interventions, better outcomes and decreased health care costs. On-going monitoring of targeted interventions for at-risk and high-risk beneficiaries through analysis and reporting tools in our Everest and Makalu products allows for comprehensive, efficient analysis of program trends, risks and opportunities.

Patient Attribution Model
For clients who do not have assigned primary care providers for members, we use the Dartmouth member attribution model to assign members based on analysis of their healthcare claims to a specific primary provider. Once that association is established, data analysis in our Makalu product from a provider point of view is possible.

Deerwalk’s care management platform, Everest, was designed by people with real-life care management experience. It supports a comprehensive view of an individual across the health care continuum using a single online record for all care coordination activities. This allows for redundancy elimination and facilitates utilization of clinical resources consistently, efficiently and effectively. System generated Care Alerts and risk scores aid users in identifying members who are at the greatest risk and proactively intervening. Everest reporting allows organizations to evaluate their program effectiveness and productivity.

Yala, Deerwalk’s member portal offers innovative ways for members to actively participate in their healthcare decisions. Our member portal is focused on ease of use, member support and information sharing. It integrates information such as Care Alerts from Makalu and Everest for clients who use all 3 of our products. Krames StayWell award winning consumer focused features such as a symptom evaluator and a drug interaction checker have been incorporated into Yala. Our online HRA, trackers/calculators, medical and drug resource libraries and the ability to keep a personal health history make Yala an appealing benefit for your members.

Provider Profiler
Provider profiling activities are possible with our Makalu product. In the case of clients whose members are assigned a Primary Care Provider, standard and ad hoc reporting at the PCP level is present. For those clients who do not use assigned providers but who would like to do some provider profiling, we apply the Dartmouth patient attribution model to attribute members to a given provider. Once that is done, specific provider analysis can be done.

Clinical Reporting
Deerwalk’s clinical reporting is focused on quality of care, utilization and outcomes, providing the data you need to maintain quality while holding down costs. Clinical parameters necessary for evaluating health plan performance, measuring member outcomes and determining the impact of clinical activities are central in the analytics. For clients who engage members in specific programs, comparison reports for engaged versus non-engaged member results are available. Cohorts of members in a clinical group can be saved and monitored overtime for changes. Clinical reports can be at the aggregate level, for a specific group or primary care provider down to individual members.

Care Quality Gaps Reporting
Our Makalu product offers a library of quality metrics derived from evidence-based medicine and national quality standards. Client specific quality measures can be built for clients who have unique needs. Your data is compared to the quality metrics and members with care gaps are identified. Results overtime and by parameters such as Primary Care Provider or Group are possible. Identified Care Alerts for a member are incorporated into the member’s record in Everest and in Yala for clients who use those Deerwalk products.
